Transcendentalism Transcendentalism is the literary and intellectual movement that grew out of an increased interest in nature (Black and Lybecker vol. 1, 75). In philosophy it is the emphasis on the "priori conditions of knowledge and experience or the unknowable character of ultimate reality" (merriam-webster). Though this does not seem to coexist very well it ultimately fits because the writers who were working with transcendentalism took the knowledge of the majority and added their own knowledge of nature.
