Drop City
Drop City, located near Trinidad, Colorado was the first rural commune. The commune was started in 1965 and was started by a community of artists that wanted to live a self-sustaining life, living in geodesic domes and could cooperate in the production of new art and performance projects.
The founders of the community believed that individuals should surrender a portion of their daily freedom to the tasks that needed to be done for the community without being told. All people would contribute to the good of the community though there was no political structure (Issitt 52). Drop City artists also started the Alloy gathering.
