Throughout American history people have become increasingly more environmentally conscious (especially with the advance in technology), but each time period has its own distinguishing characteristics. While the Romantic era has emphasized the importance of wilderness, this environmental philosophy has morphed into a capitalist corruption caused by the contamination of pro-environmental activism.
This website will trace the path that environmentalism has taken in American history and see where it has changed from being idealized and almost sacred into a popularized concept that corporations have taken advantage of to increase sales. It will include a few examples of how consumers can become more aware of the products they are buying.
